This project introduces a transformable, multi-functional exhibition space inside the courtyard of the historic Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon
(a former 17th-century convent located at Place des Terreaux).
Designed to extend the museum's role as a convergence point for culture and urban life, the project thoughtfully integrates modern functional areas into a densely built historic context.

Open Courtyard Integration.
The concept opens the courtyard to the city via cross-cutting passages facing the surrounding streets from three sides. This turns the once-enclosed courtyard into an accessible urban public hub, weaving the museum directly into Lyon’s public space network.
Structural Glass Roof.
A tension-based acrylic glass roof, supported by a stretched cable system with rubber buffers and neoprene strips, covers the entire courtyard. This lightweight structure minimizes steel usage, preserves natural light, and enables all-weather access to new spaces—including an accessible rooftop area.
Expanded Functional Program.
The new structure creates versatile areas for contemporary art exhibitions, lectures, installations, and performances while preserving the existing courtyard pathways and geometry.
Underground Facilities .
Below ground level, the design adds essential support spaces including extra exhibition areas, educational zones, artwork storage, ticket counters, and a reception area.
